KING CRIMSON drummer PAT MASTELOTTO JOINS THE FLOWERKINGS FOR TOUR

The Flower Kings will tour most of Europe this November and have the now legendary drumming progrockicon Pat Mastelotto behind the drumkit.

Pat Mastelotto, an American that once had big US and worldwide hits with Mr Mister and later on played on many pop albums including XTC, The Rembrants etc. but since the early 90's is most known for his pioneering work with heavy beats and drum electronica, most significant in King Crimson.

Pat also kept busy with side projects together with stick masters Trey Gunn and Marcus Reuter, like Tuner, Mastica ,MP TU, KTU etc .

The Flower Kings will play most of the new album and most certainly some older fan favorites plus the odd jam that is made out of thin air, different every night.

The rest of band is Hasse Froberg: Vocals & guitars, Tomas Bodin: Keyboards, Jonas Reingold: Bass & vocals all led by Roine Stolt: lead guitar & vocals.

Pain of Salvation to start mixing new DVD next month

Pain of Salvation vocalist, Daniel Gildenlow, had this to say:

"Yes, the rumors are correct. We filmed one of the shows on our latest tour and we plan to release a DVD from that show. I have been on paternity leave for a few months now, an experience I encourage every dad to try, but come September we are starting to work on bonus material, mixing etc. No release date has been set yet, as we are also in the middle of replacing band members and working on new material, but now you at least you can start waiting for real."

In other news, Pain of Salvation are narrowing their drummer search:

Former drummer, Johan Langell, left the band in April to focus on family life forcing the Swedish progressive band to begin the long, arduous search for a new drummer.

"Hundreds of applications from all around the world came in, and after a difficult screening process, focusing mainly on the Swedish applications, a handful of drummers made it to auditions. These auditions have now been held, and all of those drummers proved to be very skillful. The process will now continue to the next level, so there is no point in applying for the part anymore. We want to thank you all for offering your services. News will be posted."

Fan-filmed video footage of PAIN OF SALVATION's June 22, 2007 performance at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium can be viewed here.

SAGA enters studio to record final album with Michael Sadler!

Legendary Canadian band, SAGA, enters Sound Image studio in Los Angeles this week to begin work on their 19th studio album, currently titled "10,000 Days." After 30 years of fronting the band, vocalist Michael Sadler has decided this will be his last chapter with SAGA.

"As I think about it," Michael explains, "I’ve spent more than half of my life focused on my career. Whether traveling or in the studio, I simply haven’t spent a great deal of time at home, wherever that may have been at the time, over the last 30 years!"

"I suppose what I’m trying to say is, I’ve decided to shift my focus to what now matters most to me and something that has eluded me since we began the band…that something is my family!"

Forming in 1977, SAGA was launched into rock stardom in 1983 when MTV started spinning the singles to their fourth album, World's Apart. "On the Loose" proved to be their breakthrough in America and peaked at #26 on the Billboard Charts in March of 1983. "Wind Him Up" became the second single and peaking at #64 on Billboard the following month.

The band has been touring and releasing albums ever since.

Look for SAGA's "10,000 Days" in stores in October 2007.

The Tangent to be joined by Jakko M Jakszyk:

The Tangent's new album scheduled for release in early 2008 is set to feature Jakko M Jakszyk as guitarist. Jakko has an enormous history behind him in the story of progressive music, and his most recent solo album which features contributions from Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, (King Crimson) Clive Brooks, Dave Stewart (Egg National Health, Bruford) and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) - is testament to just a part of that history. Entitled "The Bruised Romantic Glee Club", the album is not to be missed.

Jakko's most well known recent project in progressive circles was as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the 21st Century Schizoid Band, a name given to the reincarnation of the early King Crimson... where Jakko had to be Robert Fripp and Greg Lake at the same time.

Jakko steps into the Tangent to fill a space formerly occupied by Roine Stolt and Krister Jonsson. All the band welcome him and hope for a productive future........

Krister Jonsson has played guitar for the Tangent since Roine left in 2004. Although he won't be appearing on the forthcoming album, the band are fully mindful of the enormous contribution he has made to the Place In the Queue album, and to the live dates and live albums that have happened before and since "Queue".

Slavior guitarist, Wayne Findlay in Guitar World

Check out Slavior guitarist, Wayne Findlay's, "Betcha Can't Play This" in the new issue of Guitar World. (August w/ White Stripes on the cover - Page 30).

Wayne plays a lick from his Dean Dime seven-string Razorback. Its built around a F#m11 arpeggio. It incorporates sweep picking, tapping and double hammer-ons and pull-offs, as well as wide fret-hand stretches on the high E string.

Flower Kings enter the studio to make their 10th studio album, "The Sum of No Evil."

The Swedish Prog masters, The Flower Kings, have entered Varispeed Studios in southern Sweden to work on their 10th studio album entitled, "The Sum of No Evil." Varispeed is known for its vintage gear producing a great '70's sound and vibe.

"Altogether this album is a definite step back to what we did around Retropolis/Stardust/Flower Power," says main man Roine Stolt, "a more symphonic, melodic style with more keyboard/guitar interplay."

"We're working on 6 songs," continues Roine, "all just working titles, "Love Is The Only Answer" a 26 min epic, very symphonic in the vein of early TFK songs (think Stardust or Garden Of Dreams); "Trading My Soul" cinematic melancholic ballad, big sound; "Brimstoned Again "a Tomas Bodin instrumental with frantic drumming from Zoltan, as prog as it gets; "We're Life In Motion" very upbeat and positive melodic TFK'ish 13 min track, possible closer of the set; "Dukular,” a very keyboard-oriented 13 min track that is close to early ELP, Genesis and Refugee, great catchy hook, Hasse sings; "Sum Of No Reason" - a heavy riffing and very proggy melancholic 12 min tune, about religion, business and wars, think UK with Bozzio, lots of odd time signatures and polyrhythm, drop-tuning etc.”

To the surprise of a lot of fans, this album also features the return of Hungarian drumming prodigy, Zoltan Csorsz.

Look for The Flower Kings’ "The Sum of No Evil" in stores this October with a tour to follow.

REDEMPTION TO SUPPORT DREAM THEATER IN UPCOMING TOUR!

Redemption is extremely pleased to officially confirm the widely-reported news that they will be direct support for the legendary Dream Theater on all dates of DT's upcoming US tour. Beginning July 24th in San Diego, CA and finishing 25 shows later on August 26th in Philadelphia, PA, Redemption will have the opportunity to showcase its unique style of progressive metal in front of some of the most dedicated fans in the genre.

Redemption's songwriter and guitarist Nicolas van Dyk commented "This is an extraordinary opportunity for us...we'd like to thank all in the Dream Theater camp, particularly Mike Portnoy, and all at Inside Out, particularly Thomas Waber and Jim Pitulski, for helping make this tour a reality. I can't think of a better platform for us to perform our music for our fans and introduce new people to Redemption."

Redemption will play from 35-40 minutes each night, and the band is expected to showcase its recent release, The Origins of Ruin, as well as performing music from its previous two releases. In addition to van Dyk, the band features renowned vocalist Ray Alder, guitarist Bernie Versailles, drummer Chris Quirarte and bassist Sean Andrews. Greg Hosharian, the band's permanent touring keyboardist, will join for all dates of the tour, freeing van Dyk to focus on guitar. Sean Entrikin of the band Prymary will fill in for the few shows that van Dyk will be unable to make. Specific details of which shows Nick will play, as well as other up-to-date information, can be found on the band's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/thebandredemption as well as the band's official website, www.redemptionweb.com.

AYREON DEMOS FINISHED

Arjen just finished recording the demos for his seventh Ayreon album. As previously reported, Arjen went through a difficult time last winter. Since then he's been doing a lot better. He discovered that music truly is the best medicine and also drew inspiration from the many encouraging e-mails, letters, and postcards he received from his fans. Though Arjen initially planned to release a single album, the plan -- as always -- changed as the composing progressed. Like 'The Human Equation' and 'Into the Electric Castle', the new Ayreon will be a double album featuring 15 tracks with a combined length of nearly 100 minutes.

Arjen and Ayreon-veteran Ed Warby (Gorefest) will enter the studio next month to record drums together with producer Gordon Groothedde.

Arjen is currently checking the availability of vocalists and instrumentalists to see who can be scheduled to appear. A number of vocalist have already responded enthusiastically. Arjen has a long wish-list, and it promises to be quite a puzzle to figure out who will be singing where and what.

No release date has been set.

Be sure to check Arjen's official MySpace site http://www.myspace.com/ayreonauts for special updates and upcoming previews.
