The Gentle Storm: launch video for "Shores Of India"; The Diary out now!
The Gentle Storm, featuring the talents of Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, Guilt Machine) & Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Devin Townsend Project), release their debut album 'The Diary' today, and to celebrate they are extremely pleased to reveal the stunning new video for 'Shores of India (Storm Version)' which you can view here:

Arjen this to say about the video and album release:
"For me 'Shores of India' was the obvious choice for a video because I think it's the most adventurous and cinematic track on "The Diary'. I've always been partial to oriental melodies and I'm especially proud of the epic chorus. Anneke did an amazing job singing this intricate song, both technically and emotionally. Of course Anneke and I had a lot of fun dressing up and I absolutely didn't mind being pampered by those hot belly dancers :-) By the way, this was the first time I held a sitar in my hands, so be 'gentle' with me!"

Anneke adds:
"Shores of India was one of the first songs Arjen and I recorded for this album. Working at the VOC in the seventeenth century was a risky job, and a lot of sailors never returned to their homeland, but stories about far away countries, beautiful women and money-making opportunities kept attracting new sailors. The lyrics for this song are written from the perspective of young officer Joseph serving in the VOC. He writes to his wife Susanne about the Shores of India."

The album concept is a tale of love, loss, and separation told through the story of two fictional seventeenth-century lovers. A Dutch sailor embarks on a two-year voyage, leaving his wife at home in Holland. The only way for the couple to communicate and keep their love alive during the long separation is through letters. These letters form the basis for the songs on the album.

After Arjen and Anneke played some very successful acoustic shows together in February, a full all-star band will go out - without Arjen - in March and April, and the confirmed dates and band line-up can be found below.
